The discovery earlier this month of a trove of casino chips from the no longer operational Playboy Hotel & Casino in New Jersey has been described as massive by a local police officer.
Michael Riley, of Henando Police, told the Star-Ledger that nobody had any idea what might possibly be uncovered when builders started to clear the way for a new community centre on top of the old Green Duck Corp slot machine token manufacturing plant.
"Everybody exaggerates a little bit, but they didn't do it justice," he remarked. "This was huge."
The discovery transformed the chip collecting market over night and the ultra-rare $100 Playboy chips went from being particularly valuable to not worth much at all.
"For the people who had Playboy chips before this, it's not good," said a collector called Pushkin, who added that it is beneficial for those who cannot afford to collect expensive chips.
There is currently only one Playboy Casino in the world, which is situated at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
